 7 Days: Road to the North

Morning, departure from your major city hotel in Bangkok by private van with English-speaking guide for Ayutthaya, the former capital of Thailand. The principal sights are the gigantic bronze statues of Wat Mongkol Borpith, the three ancient pagodas at Wat Srisanpetch and Wat Panangcherng.

Proceed to Lopburi, visit Prang Sam Yod (Sacred Three Spired Pagoda) and the monkey temple.
Lunch will be provided at local restaurant during the tour.

Continue to Phitsanuloke and check-in at your hotel. After refreshing, city tour by walking and stopping at local market in Phitsanuloke, where you will see they sell fried insects.

Departure for Sukhothai Historical Park, visit the famous ruins of this first capital of Thailand.

Proceed to Lampang and visit Wat Phra Dhat Lampang Luang.

Departure for Chiang Saen, the former capital of the first Thai Kingdom, situated directly on the Mekong River at the border between Thailand and Laos via Kwan Phayao.

Experience local boat upriver on the Mekong towards the Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos convene.Continue to Mae Sai, the northernmost Thai town on the border to Myanmar. Walking around the local market with opportunity for shopping. Return to your hotel in Chiang Rai.

A breath taking trip to the highest peak on the Thai-Burmese border, Doi Tung, provides the perfect opportunity to visit both Lahu and Akha hill tribe villages.

En-route, enjoy views of scenic farming terraces, and see from a distance the palace built for the Princess Mother.Located at the top of the peak is Wat Phra That Doi Tung offering views over the river and rice field plains below.

The journey of today is included also Doi Mae Salon to visit the Akha Village. Lunch will be provided during the tour.

Check-out from your hotel and depart for Chiang Mai via Wiang Pa Pao. Upon arrival at Chiang Mai, we continue to visit Wat Phra Dhat Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai’s revered mountain temple.Lunch is included during the tour.

Visit the charming city of Chiang Mai, which remains the principal religious center in northern Thailand and focal point for the construction of temples and monasteries. The moat bounding the historic center is still intact, but the walls were largely destroyed during the World War II – although their impressive four gates remain.Take a one seat trishaw (1 trishaw/1 pax), pedaled by a strong driver around the old city area. You will pass markets and see the lives of locals who line the busy central road. Be captivated by the charm of the unique architecture, especially at the old temples. You visit Wat Pra Singh or Monastery of the Lion Lord, founded in the 14th century to house the ashes of King Kham Fu and to serve as the principal religious center of the Lanna Kingdom. The complex is composed of several buildings of varying architectural and artistic merit that form the most famous temple in Chiang Mai. The Viharn Lai Kham gilded hall, decorated with murals of everyday life, houses the revered Phra Buddha Sihing image.
